Even on a sea day, work has to continue! |
In the afternoon I went to a tour briefing for an impending overnight two day tour that I was asked to escort. The Shore Excursions team had very kindly asked me if I would like to do an overland two-day tour. Reina, Annette, a receptionist and the photographer were also asked to help with escorting the two-day tours. Reina is a 'wife on board', travelling with her husband who is the Environmental Officer, and has been escorting tours for quite a while. Annette is also travelling as 'wife on board' with her husband (the Chief Engineer). However she also works for Holland America Line as a Future Cruise Consultant and starts her contract here, on the Prinsendam, when we arrive back in Citivecchia, Italy. Having helped escort shore tours for quite a while now, the Shore Excursions team felt that they could trust the four of us to accompany the guests on longer tours. I was nervous (the "what if ...?" factor) but also excited! The briefing was to update us on what to expect, what was expected of us, but to also have fun (if we
could!). We were also given tour itineraries and report forms to fill in at the end of each
Lunch time - a selection of desserts that are to die for. They go 'straight to the hips'. Yum. |
Annette didn't have a rucksack so I gave her Paul's rucksack (whether he liked it or not!) so she was able to carry her overnight things with her. It meant that Reina didn't have to double up on trying to cram overnight things for two people into her rucksack (her own things as well as Annette's).
I have just got back from a formal night (everyone gets dressed up in their 'finery' - lovely ball gowns or dresses, tuxedos or evening suits). We ended up hosting a table in the dining room with 6 guests. Fortunately (or unfortunately 😉) Paul had his now complete formal suit and was therefore not let off entertaining! It was a pleasant evening and the guests at our table seemed to get on well with each other.
Time for me to do a bit of packing for tomorrow - an extra pair of trousers, t-shirt and toiletries.
