Paul was busy this morning and the captain was out on shore leave so it was only later on, after lunch that we got off for a wander around town in the afternoon.
Another of Holland America's ships was also docked, MS Koningsdam. She looked huge beside the Prinsendam. And town was very busy as a result of other cruise ships in port.
Paul and I stuck to the main streets with the aim of him trying to find a formal shirt. Eventually we found a nice on at a menswear shop. It's original price had been €70+. It was marked down to a nice tidy €15! Bargain. Now all he needed was a nice gold chain to go with his formal suit - a chain that links one side of his formal suit jacket to the other, instead of having buttons to close it. We happened to take a side street that ran parallel to the main road that we had taken and were just talking about the chain when we saw in a haberdashery shop window 'fake' gold chains of various sizes and types. Well, Paul bought a metre of chain and will take a bit off (of a suitable length for his jacket) and will keep the rest spare for as and when he may need it again or if the gold colour wears off.
Before heading back the ship I thought that Paul could do well with a nice set of cuff-links for his formal shirt, rather than using the white plastic cuff-links which came with the shirt which looked rather ugly/tacky. We eventually found a pair of gold-coloured ones that looked like old fashioned ship steering wheels ☸. I think it will round off the look of his shirt very nicely.
It's time to head away from Greece, and experience another culture. Again something new to learn about. Israel is our next destination!
