MS Maasdam - sea day and a few pictures.

Statue in Neptune Suite
Today the ship is sailing partly empty because most guests left the ship yesterday.  About half have stayed on and are either disembarking in Boston or will be sailing with us for another week or two.  The next official cruise sailing will be from Boston when we get a more or less full compliment of guests.

Apart from working on my blog, I still accompany Paul around the Maasdam as and when he does his 'tour de ship' - if he remembers to pop in and collect me!  Below are some photographs to give you more of an idea of ship life.

Bearing in mind that the Maasdam is partly full, Paul had the opportunity to show me the largest guest cabin on the ship, called the Pinnacle Suite (penthouse), which was having some maintenance work done on the balcony.  Wow!  It is quite luxurious.  It has a bedroom with a king-size bed, whirlpool bath, shower, living room, dining room, dressing room, private verandah, pantry, a sofa bed for 2 people neatly folded and tucked away in what looks like a cupboard; mini-bar, fridge, guest toilet and floor-to-ceiling windows.

One of the Neptune Suites (next step down from the Pinnacle Suite) was open for maintenance so Paul allowed me to have a quick look inside too.  It had 2 lower beds which convert into a king-size bed, whirlpool bath and shower, large sitting area, dressing room, private verandah, a sofa bed for 2 people, a mini-bar, fridge and floor-to-ceiling windows.

A wooden railing is getting sanded down and re-varnished here in the anchor
room.  Oftentimes areas on board end up being used as a workshop  - to spare
guests from noise and paint smells.

Ropes and mooring winch maintenance.

Paul inspecting the anchor chain links.  They look newly painted.

Paul took this photograph so that I didn't get my eyeballs singed!

At the moment here's a big hole in the marshalling area floor.  Stuff
has to go up and down into the hold as and when it is needed.
It's a heckuva long way down to the bottom/engine room/bowels of the ship.

In the cupboard behind the chairs there is a small double bed folded up and
stored.
