Gorge Walk

Today we decided to try and avoid the heat and go to the Loiblepass for a walk in a gorge, Tscheppaschlucht bei Ferlach in Kärnten, based on the hope that it would be mostly in the shade.

The drive up the pass to the car park was very pretty.  The car park itself was very busy, the area being very popular for walking and a treetop high-wire adventure course.  Unfortunately the first part of the walk was downhill towards the river - what goes down must eventually go up (more so at the end of the walk......)

Wet and keeping cool!
The gorge walk was beautiful, walking beside the river at times; other times we had to walk on cliff walkways, up or down steep narrow steps.  The waterfalls we passed were stunning.  Although we walked mainly in shade, I did get rather hot at times so kept cool by soaking my hat in the river and plonking it on my head.  At one point we stopped for a break during our walk and I ended up sitting in the river to cool down.  (Paul wasn't quite so brave....)  It felt good to walk in wet clothes which helped to keep me cool during the rest of the walk.  Every now and then I would dip my hat in the river or soak my long sleeved shirt as it dried off.

We were tired when we got back to the campsite and it was good to grab our pool noodles and float in the lake for a bit before dinner time.
