A Relaxing Day: Spa & Waterpark

Erlebnis-Therme Amadé (picture from the internet)
Today we spent the day relaxing at Erlebnis-Therme Amadé  (http://www.thermeamade.at/en/).  There are pools and slides, and also a spa area.

This slide dropped from beneath your feet!

There were 3 slides.  One was relatively tame - sliding down through a windy tunnel and emerging into a long basin at the bottom.  Another one involved a slide which ended up in a big bowl which you slide around during which time the sliding took you down towards the centre and through another tunnel down to a long shallow basin.  The 3rd slide wasn't open often but it was a hair raiser.  You stepped into an angled, clear booth, crossed your arms across your chest, the clear door closed around you and then suddenly the FLOOR drops from beneath you and away you go; sliding down the tunnel, the force of gravity and water taking you up around loops, and finally finishing at the bottom of the slide in a long basin of water.  It was exhilarating.  I managed to persuade Paul to go on it once but that was it - he didn't want to go again despite the adrenaline rush.

The spa area is non-clothing so we spent time between the textile area and non-textile area, making use of the water slides and the spa even though it meant having to get in and out of our bathing suits.

A similar treatment to what we had
In the spa area we booked ourselves in for a black mud treatment at the spa.  We went into a sauna and were dished out black mud to spread all over ourselves, except for our faces.  After that we were left to steam for the next 10 minutes, allowing the mud's mineral properties to soak into our skin and work their magic.  We started to get very hot and were thinking of getting out but fortunately our spa therapist came in - our steam session was over.  We had to shower all the mud off (lovely) and then scrub ourselves down with salt which had a bit of oil mixed in with it.  Next stage was the salt sauna, with heated salt - the air which comes off the salt is supposedly good for you and for respiratory tracts.  Taking our towels, we had to lay our salty bodies on the sauna ledges and left to sweat it out for a bit.  Our therapist stayed with us, waving a towel over us that had been impregnated with essential oils.  She also upped the heat of the sauna.  We were toasting, getting hotter by the minute.  Every time she upped the sauna's heat I thought I would pass out.  Before I decided to give up and leg it, the therapist produced a bucket-full of ice and proceeded to sprinkle ice all over us - from head to toe, and then waved her towel.  The ice was

freezing but it was a bit welcome from the heat, except for the ice she put on our faces - the deep frozen ice was painful on the bones so we wiped it away.  Fortunately the ice melting session didn't last too long and we were set free to wash off the salt, sweat and ice.  The whole experience was 'different' and unusual but our skin felt great afterwards and we felt tired too from the heat.

We finished the day with a couple of runs down the slides before heading back to the hotel before closing time.

We had been at the venue for over 10 hours and got our money's worth.  We had also been given a discount card at the guest house so put it to good use.

All in all it has been a fantastic day, leaving us tired but at the same time exhilarated.

Please note that I have used photographs off the internet to give you an idea of what Erlebnis-Therme Amadé  looks like.  We did not take any photographs of our own out of respect for other guests.
