Despite a chilly and overcast day we decided go with our plans to go to a medieval festival in a small village called Dignac - in remembrance of our first date.
It did rain a bit but cleared later on. The festival was in full swing with arts and craft stalls, people dressed in medieval costumes, old games for children, bow & arrow shooting, hogs cooking on spits and much more. We had a wander around and then watched the parade which consisted of dancers, jugglers, walkers on stilts, musicians and more. Unfortunately the parade was not as big has it was when we attended on our date. We think the poor weather conditions put some of the parade performers off. Still, we enjoyed our time in Dignac.
There was still time left in the day to go to Brantôme, a lovely village situated on the banks of 2 rivers which come together. It's a very quaint and sweet town but touristy during the summer months and today was no exception. It was heaving. There were second-hand goods stalls, a few arts/craft and food stalls. There were various street performances in full swing, gathering in the crowds, from traditional dancing to a more modern performance of drummers! They were pretty good.
In the evening Jo had a few mutual friends around for a meal and we ate outside in the garden, basking in the evening's warmth and catching up on news. Clouds gathered, thunder rumbled - it was time to head indoors. We cleared the outside table just as the rain arrived. We ended sitting inside and having our dessert, listening to the rain, hearing the thunder and seeing the lightning. There is something about a good thunderstorm.
