Paul On A Course Again, & A Bit of Fun!

Paul was on another course this week, an intensive medical training course.  So early Sunday evening we headed to a hotel near Amsterdam airport for the week, the Ramada Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

Paul did try to get me on the course but to no avail.  Amongst other things he learnt how to stitch up Sponge Bob and bananas, etc.

Paul going for blonde first.
We also attempted to dye our metallic silver.

During the first stage we bleached our hair but it didn't work out too well because the previous dye colour we had in didn't come completely out so there was a bit of an orange/red tinge to our hair.

We put the metallic silver on later but unfortunately it didn't take.  Oops...

Er.... the blonding session didn't strip out the colour properly...
During the middle of the week Paul's sister, Gwenny, picked me up from the hotel and we spent a couple of hours at Elysium Wellness Resort, floating in the brine pool, or relaxing in the quiet room where music is played while you lie reclined in the water, etc; and we had a therapy session as well - some sort of massage.  It was very nice.  Paul joined us later, after his course day had finished and at the end of the evening Gwenny went home and Paul and I went back to the hotel.

My hair has gone a yellowy/orangy/red colour....
Unfortunately the chlorine in the water didn't do our hair any favours.  We should have allowed time for the dye to settle before going swimming - our hair looked even worse!  We did have another dye to cover up (chestnut) any mistakes but didn't use it because our hair needs to rest.

Paul's course finished around midday and on the way back to Rijsbergen we went to Zoetemeer to see Gwenny during her lunch break.  There is a hair dressing supply shop not far from where she works so we picked up some more hair bleach to try to bleach out silver dyeing efforts.  After that we met up with Gwenny for a bite to eat at one of the local cafés.

Now for metallic silver - which didn't really work at
all and looked worse after swimming at the spa!
Back at Paul's mum's place we unpacked, had dinner and then we did another bleach session.  The outcome is much better, more lighter blond and white rather than orange. I think we can live with the bleached look for the next 3 weeks or so!

Auckland, New Zealand - An extra day in Auckland

The dye doing its magic while I wait
Yesterday the Maasdam was supposed to have had a day of scenic cruising toward and around White Island before heading on to Auckland. With the bad weather forecast, the Captain decided it would be best to miss out on White Island and arrive in Auckland a day early - to be safe rather than sorry.

I had hoped for a bit of a lie-in in the morning but got a call at 8am to help Shore Excursions with brochure folding but it didn't matter.  It was nice to help out and make myself useful and more so because didn't want to go outside of the ship - it was pretty cold and miserable.

Paul's dyed head of hair - grape-colour
Last night we dinner with Barry (Piano Bar Entertainer) and Christina (from the shops).  We were all pretty full after the delicious meal.  Paul and I were going to relax for the rest of the evening but we decided to see Barry's last show at the piano bar.  It made for a lovely and lively evening.

Today it has been raining and pretty miserable outside.  The ship has been lashed to the pier with extra ropes.  Despite the rain, I joined Christina and Barry when they went out for coffee to Starbucks.  Barry had to then get back to get ready to leave the ship - heading on to his next assignment.  We wish him all the very best!

Christina's toes getting pampered
Just after lunch I was one of Bowen's guinea pigs for an acupuncture demonstration. Being a turn around day there were visitors arriving on board so it was nice for them to see what the spa area had to offer in the way of treatments and relaxation.  I nearly fell asleep during my acupuncture session.

Soon afterwards Paul and I went to the salon and our hair cut and dyed by Predrag.  Predrag did a good job and we had a good laugh throughout the session - seeing the hair changing colours from a purple paste to the end result.  Christina, in the meantime, treated herself to a pedicure and having her toenails polished.  I hope what visitors saw will draw in potential clients to the spa.

Paul and I had to pack - we are leaving the shop tomorrow.  After that Christina joined us for dinner in the cabin and we later watched a couple of episodes of  a t.v. programme 'Bizarre ER that Paul had taped onto a hard drive.
Heading to Tauranga

Time is marching on it's time to head to bed.  The Maasdam is starting her voyage to Australia with our next port being Tauranga tomorrow.  And tomorrow we will say farewell to the crew as Paul starts his holidays.

Walk & Hair Dye

Chalet at La Chiappa
The past 2 days my cold got the better of me so I spent quite a bit of time sleeping while Paul did some reading.

Tahiti Beach
Today we decided to check out "Tahiti" beach, a 40 minute walk along the coastline in a south westerly direction from the campsite.  It could have been a lovely beach but huge mounds of seaweed was banked up, making the waters edge look as if was rocky but in actual fact it wasn't - it was soft rotting seaweed.  We found a log on the outskirts of the beach and sat looking at the small cove and scattered sunbathing bodies.  A bit later on we were joined by 3 goats who seemed to be calling for the rest of their herd - but there was  no answer.  Clouds began to gather so we decided to leave the cove sooner rather than later.  Just as well we did because it started to drizzle.

Last week we had bought hair dye and were going to dye our hair for when we attended our friends wedding vow renewal.  Although we could no longer attend, due to car problems, we decided to dye our hair anyway.  We had a good laugh, even more so when we traipsed to the communal showers to wash the hair dye off!

It's just about time for bed and we are lying here listening to a thunderstorm.  Rain is pouring down and the sweet smell of wet earth and vegetation is rising; fresh and welcoming.

Our walk from La Chiappa to Tahiti beach along the shoreline.  Google gave a good time estimate.
