Ushuaia, Argentina.

While in port today another ship was berthed alongside the MS Prinsendam.  She is almost the 'sister' ship of the Prinsendam because of her name, the Viking Sun.  Back in 1988 the Prinsendam's name was Royal Viking Sun before she changed hands in 1999.  The Viking Sun though, is a much newer ship, more modern and has a larger passenger capacity.

Needless to say, Paul and some senior staff members went across to visit the Viking Sun and to exchange commemorative plaques. I went with Paul and took photographs of the ceremony and then we were given a tour of the main aspects of the Viking Sun.  She was very modern inside, large open spaces yet in a way - cold, compared to the warm cosy feeling of the Prinsendam.  I did like the spa area though, and their infinity pool aft!  But then again I can't really compare too much between the ships because the Prinsendam is smaller and space is limited.

Later on staff from the Viking Sun came over to the Prinsendam to have a bit of a tour around the ship to see what she is like in comparison to their ship.  The plus side was that they liked the warm colours and homely feel of the Prinsendam.

Later on I took a walk in Ushuaia.  A lot of the shops were closed but a few were open.  Paul needed gloves and a beanie hat for work.  The weather is getting colder as we head further south towards Antarctica.  No doubt Paul will want to leave the bridge now and then to get a bit of fresh, bracing, icy air!  Eventually I found something suitable for him, in black, but I also picked up a colourful knitted beanie for him too.

For those of you who like winter sports - there is a ski resort on the southern slope of Mount Krund, about 26 km from Ushuaia.  Pity we didn't have time to hire a taxi and visit the ski resort!

We are looking forward to the next few days - in Antarctica.  Fingers x'd for fair weather and a smooth passage!
