Paul hard at work |
The last few days have passed in a blur; mainly sleeping and, in between, catching up on my blogs. I suppose the motion of the ocean has a lullaby effect combined with jet-lag. Poor Paul has beeing going to bed ok but waking up during the wee hours of the morning. Being unable to get back to sleep he ends up starting work.
Paul's varicose veins in one of his legs started to play up. Unfortunately he had forgotten to bring his compression socks so he went to the infirmary for some and came back with a rather 'fetching' pair of thigh-high compression stockings. We joked about him needing garters for them!
So far it has been calm sailing, the Pacific Ocean fairly smooth as we cut a track across the waters. Usually we see a few green faces a day or so into the cruise but so far not. Even the on-board infirmary has been quiet.
Passing through time zones, the ship's clocks have 'gone back'3 hours. The clocks are set back during the wee hours of the morning, an hour at a time so that everyone gets an extra hour's sleep and it makes for easier adjustments to the body clock.

Lunch time - and one of my favourite staff members is behind the counter |
We bumped into a guest who remembers us from the 'around Australia' cruise last year. Her face was familiar but unfortunately I really couldn't remember her until she put us in the picture - she and I had been on a tour together in Darwin. Ooops! Since the start of the voyage there are a few familiar faces amongst the staff, others are 'new' who have taken over from those going on shore leave. Seeing the staff who have remained on board helps us to settle in quickly - a bit like a second large family, home from home.
Tomorrow we arrive in Honolulu, Hawaii's island of Oahu. It will be good to see land again after 5 days at sea!
